Hostile Reconnaissance

Hostile reconnaissance is the term given to the information gathering phase by individuals or groups with malicious (terrorism or criminality) intent. It is a vital component of the attack planning process. This guidance gives all practitioners an understanding of why and how hostile reconnaissance is conducted, and the principles of how to disrupt threats during the reconnaissance phase, along with practical measures on how to reduce the vulnerability of sites. The suite of tools provided in this session have been carefully developed to disrupt hostile reconnaissance while having a neutral, informing or even reassuring and recruiting effect on the normal site user. They also focus on utilising existing protective security such as CCTV control rooms, security officers, rapid and accurate corporate communications and engagement with members of the public/employees, thus disrupting hostile reconnaissance. HR recognition is vitally important if you feel that you have a site or venue that is vulnerable to a particular threat posed or you have staff that you feel should be more aware of the subject. It is accepted that this and other subjects are covered in the ACT presentations, however this provide more detail, be site and role specific and encourages discussion that the e-learning can lose.
